Russia asks France to extradite ex-senator Pugachyov

MOSCOW, Mar 2 (PRIME) -- Prosecutor General’s Office of Russia has sent a request to France asking a criminal extradition of ex-senator Sergei Pugachyov, beneficiary of defunct Mezhprombank, the authority’s representative Alexander Kurennoi told reporters on Thursday.

“Today, on March 2, 2017 Deputy Prosecutor General Saak Karapetyan sent a request to the Justice Ministry of the French Republic to extradite former owner of Mezhprombank Sergei Pugachyov for the purpose of criminal prosecution,” he said.

Financial damage from actions incriminated to Pugachyov exceeds 90 billion rubles, and the aggrieved party – the Deposit Insurance Agency – has filed a civil suit on the matter, he said.
